These homeowners came to Resi with a good idea of what they wanted to do to their family home but needed some help navigating the ins and outs of the project.
The brief
By knocking through an existing wall between the kitchen and living room, they wanted to create an open-plan living space that would allow them to connect much easier as a family. They also wanted to convert their unused garage into an attractive snug and home office, complete with a front-facing bay window. With support from our planning team, the homeowners also received planning approval for a ground floor rear extension which would really maximise their ideas for a new open-plan living area.
Resi Connect
Utilising our Connect service, the homeowners found My Extension Ltd, a contractor they were confident could get the job done. The resulting space is a huge open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, perfect for entertaining guests and spending time as a whole family. The room is completely filled with natural light from not one or two, but three skylights, and a massive set of bifold doors, which also provides a full view of the garden. The rear extension gives enough space for a large L-shaped sofa, a six-seater dining table and a kitchen island/breakfast bar - everything a family home could ever need. Crucially, this also meant our designers could implement an isolated utility room into the design, preventing noisy machines from disrupting time spent in the new living space.
Converting the garage
The garage conversion also helped to create a very desirable home office and snug. The bay window was added upon the homeowner’s request, providing a level of natural light perfect for concentration and relaxation - whichever purpose the room is being used for. The homeowners were also open to ideas and liked the designer’s suggestion of an additional porch area, which was added to give the newly redesigned space a grand entrance - a place to give guests the proper first impression.
