You don’t need to reinvent the wheel to help a home feel brand new. Using the existing space, our designers worked closely with these homeowners to reimagine their ground floor layout. The aim was to create more open space, install better glazing, and add a touch of modern flair. Here’s what our team came up with!
An open plan layout
To open this space up, a selection of internal walls needed demolishing, including a chimney breast. For this, we consulted our in-house building regulations team for the structural work, which needed the input of an engineer before the build began. We then worked on creating a natural distinction between cooking and leisure spaces. For example, kitchen islands are a great way to break up dead space to provide the perfect informal dining situation.
Light-flooding glazing
One of the main benefits of an open plan layout is how it allows natural light to travel through the whole ground floor space. To encourage as much sunlight as possible, we paired Crittall-style French doors with skylights to give the main cooking areas a heavy dose of Vitamin D. To help brighten the darker winter days, we also added pendant lights in both the kitchen and dining areas.
A functional utility room
When you have such a beautiful living space, the last thing you want to see is bulky appliances or washing left out to dry. This is why our minor garage conversion cut the original garage in half to create a new utility room. Now the unsightly household items are tucked away – out of sight and out of mind!
