With a run down barn on their hands, these landowners in Buckinghamshire wanted to put the structure to good use and envisioned a modern countryside abode they could call their forever home. Our designers stepped in to help them bring their barn conversion ideas to life, creating 3D models of the proposed build to help them picture their new space, as well as boost the project’s chances of securing planning approval. Here’s what our new build wizards came up with…
Ground floor: the basics
With so much space to play with, there was plenty of opportunities to explore a variety of recreations and tailor this large open plan area to the household’s unique interests. However, before all that, we had to tick off the basics. We used a bulk of the ground floor to create a large open plan kitchen diner, with a kitchen island and breakfast used to define the kitchen space. This allows for a casual flow between two key areas of the home, allowing cooking and socialising to exist harmoniously. But for those formal occasions, we also included a dining room off the kitchen, with two entrance points for maximum ease of use. And to stop practicalities from spoiling the beautiful aesthetics, we included a utility room, to help store bulky appliances out of sight.
Ground floor: recreational space
With the basics checked off, we could customise the rest of the space to the family’s interests. Working from home has been on the rise in the last few years, so for the adults, we incorporated a large study and included a meeting room to allow for team gatherings. Next to this, we added an oasis of calm with a plant room, to help the family express their green fingers. Alongside this, we also included a snug for family movie nights, as well as a music room for practice sessions - meaning we ticked off each item on this family’s impressive wishlist!
Creating five impressive bedrooms
With lots of room to play with, we were able to accommodate five bedrooms into the design. The first is a large master bedroom, complete with walk-in wardrobes and an ensuite. The ensuite includes his and hers sinks, two toilets and a wet room. And for a touch of romance, there is also a standing tub sat within a picturesque alcove.
For the two children, we had the rooms adjoining and in front of a sitting area, which could easily turn into a spot for play. There is a detached bathroom for everyone to enjoy, as well as one guest bedroom with its own ensuite. The final bedroom sits next to the master and enjoys stunning views of the surrounding countryside - making it the perfect escape for anyone lucky enough to visit this impressive property.
