Before Resi stepped in this home lacked that all important communal space. The hub where the family could gather, formally or informally, throughout the year. What’s more, with young children in the house, the old space was prone to clutter and other messes. And being in a conservation area meant these homeowners weren’t sure what changes they could make. Luckily, our designers were on hand to change all this - thanks to a very hard-working extension.

An extended kitchen

The biggest change we made was to open up the kitchen area, doing away with the old dining room and replacing it with an island and breakfast bar. We then created a casual living space towards the garden where, with the sliding doors and new landscaping, the outside could truly become a star feature.

A subtle utility room

Meanwhile, while one area shines, another has been quietly secreted away with a new utility room being placed sneakily out of sight. Featuring its own access point to the garden, this helps tidy away those unsightly appliances, like the washing machine, and means the laundry can be hung out to dry without being traipsed through the rest of the house.

A versatile space

We also helped unlock the potential of the old space too. Thanks to the living area created to the back of the home, we could change the front of the house into a more formal dining room. Though it’s still open to the kitchen, the room has its own distinct feel - a gravitas that's well suited to special events. Of course, it could also as easily be used day to day for dinner. Versatility is at the heart of this design. We’ve used skylights to make this space bright and inviting, a pleasure to visit. So whether this family is chatting while cooking, kicking back for a leisurely lunch on the sofa, entertaining friends, or even going alfresco for dinner, their home makes it all possible.
