In order to achieve the master bedroom this homeowner had been dreaming of, they first had to overcome some tricky design and planning challenges. Luckily, they had our design team by their side, to achieve a truly stunning loft conversion. A common challenge many loft conversions face is head height, namely how to get enough of it. Though this London home had a loft, the restricted head height meant the roof would have to be raised before a conversion could take place. To achieve this, our team laid out plans to raise the ridge line of the property, taking the roof up to make room for a dormer to come out towards the rear. The benefit of this method is, from a street perspective, that classic pitched roof looks exactly the same.

However, though raising the ridge is a great space solution, they often face rejection when it comes to planning permission. This is why having our team on board made such a difference. Not only did we provide a quality design, we even helped submit the application on the homeowner’s behalf, leaving no stone left unturned when it came to securing permission. Alongside the dormer, our designs also included some other room enhancing features. For the master bedroom up top, we included an ensuite, as well as plenty of skylights - making it irresistible to any future buyers. We also added some built-in storage. Giving the family places to tidy away all their bits and bobs, without losing any useful space.

Because the new bedroom required a proper staircase to be installed, alongside our work to the exterior and loft upstairs, we also had to reconfigure the first floor layout too. Here we tried to minimise the impact this would have on the existing rooms, and reworked their positioning to retain a nice sense of space for guests. Meaning, no matter where you are in this home, you get to enjoy that Resi touch.
