This wonderful North London house is home to Andrew and Sianne. The project itself is pretty sizeable, combining both a side and rear extension, and a total reconfiguration of the ground floor.
Though it's located in a gorgeous, leafy part of Muswell Hill on a street so quiet and picturesque it almost feels like it's own little village, they originally found the house in a not-so-picturesque state. After moving in they had a few unpleasant surprises, such as rotting windows, damp in the walls that had been covered up and painted over, and failing electric, plumbing and heating systems.
Through clever design, not only did we transform the layout of the ground floor but we also significantly grew the living space. With both extensions we managed to increase the size of the ground floor by a huge 50%! By extending to the rear of the property, we brought the back of the house level with what used to be the kitchen, which we slightly enlarged and turned into a utility room and separate boot room for function. The boot room connects to the rear extension, which features cornerless pocket doors that slide into the walls either side, allowing the family to totally open up the room and let the outside in.
The rear extension is being used as a lounge, which leads on to a dining area and then further through to the kitchen, which is situated within the side extension. The kitchen is incredibly spacious with a timeless aesthetic, featuring tall ceilings, matte black cabinets and gorgeous parquet flooring. Passing back through the house into the entrance, straight ahead we have a smaller bright living room with a home office tucked inside.
We loved the dashboard. It was great being able to go back and refer to plans constantly, chat with our designer and build a picture of how the project would look on the Pinterest board.
The house is amazing in the summer, we have so much space now and love being able to open up all the doors to get a breeze through.
