This house started life in a rather traditional fashion. It contained your usual spaces, such as a living room that was forced to double as a study, a cramped kitchen, and an unloved dining room. Through this project, we used a rear extension to shake this layout up and bring it into the 21st century. Here’s what our designers have envisioned and brought to life through 3D models.
A modern way to dine
One of the biggest changes to the home is the use of the rear. With the rear extension in place, the layout now has the room to house an open plan kitchen and dining room. This less formal setting makes socialising more enjoyable and allows the family to sit together while meals are prepared. To cater for all palettes, we’ve included both a snug dining table in the corner and a breakfast bar in the kitchen island.
Natural light and outside connection
To make sure natural light is able to penetrate the whole space, our designers have been strategic in their glazing placement. We’ve included two large skylights over both the main cooking station and dining area. This not only brightens up the back of the space but also ensures plenty of natural light for the most heavily used areas. Alongside this, we’ve envisioned a large set of bi-fold doors. Once completed, the homeowners will be able to move effortlessly between their inside and outside spaces, all the while enjoying sweeping views all year round.
Practicalities
While this home is beautiful, it also needs to be practical as well. This is why we included a nest of highly functional rooms in the middle of the ground floor layout. Not only would these homeowners enjoy a new utility room, but they would also benefit from a new downstairs toilet - complete with a shower room. Now unsightly appliances can be tucked away from the picturesque kitchen area, and wandering guests can be kept away from the privacy of upstairs.
