Our designers have helped give this London property a modern makeover. The rear extension not only creates a large space for socialising, but we’ve also sneaked in some practical features to help with those everyday moments. Here’s what our team put together for this stylish family.
Social space
Our first priority with this extension was to make sure it created the ultimate social space for the household to congregate in. A spot that is perfect for dinners, house parties, summer BBQs, and more. We started with an open plan layout, which combined a living room, dining, and kitchen. To keep the spaces feeling distinct, we separated them out with an L-shaped design, as well as a well-placed kitchen island. A common problem with open plan is the struggle to get natural light to penetrate the entire space. This is why we included not only two large skylights but also a set of bi-fold doors. These doors also provide the perfect framing for the newly landscaped garden.
Landscaped garden
To maximise on space, these homeowners wanted to make sure their garden mirrored the new extension. By landscaping the patio paving to match the flooring inside the kitchen - plus the addition of the bi-fold doors - a fluidity is created between the spaces and allows the family to feel connected to the outdoors all year round. After all, when it’s sunny in England, you want to make sure your home is ready!
Utility room
The last thing you want spoiling your gorgeous entertaining space is a loud washing machine or (even worse) a clothes horse filled with damp underwear. This is why utility rooms are rising in popularity. We’ve tucked this one away in at the back of the space, where the practicalities are at hand but (importantly) out of sight.
